What happens if it doesn't work out?
Hiring a designer online means trusting someone you've never met. I get it. Here's exactly what protects you — in writing, before you ever pay a cent.
Before you pay anything
Reading the website and submitting a project brief is free. You'll get a friendly quote in writing within one working day, with a fixed price and a clear list of what's included. You can decide not to go ahead at any point — no card on file, no cancellation fee, no awkward email.
After your first payment
- You get the first deliverable (usually a homepage draft or a content questionnaire) within 5–10 working days. If I miss that without explanation, you can ask for a refund of your first payment.
- The scope is locked. You won't suddenly be asked for more money for what we already agreed. Any new features become a separate "change request" with its own quote.
- If we mutually decide it's not working and you cancel before the first design is delivered, you get a partial refund of your first payment (~50–70% depending on hours used, agreed in writing).
When the site is built
- You see the finished site on a staging URL. You can walk through it, pin comments on anything you'd like changed, and only pay the second half when you click Approve.
- If you genuinely don't like the final result and we can't fix it within the agreed scope, we'll have a written conversation about a fair resolution — usually you keep the work you've had so far and pay a pro-rated amount.
When it's live
- You own everything. The codebase, the design files, the domain, the hosting — all in your name and your accounts. If one day you want to move to another designer, you can take everything with you.
- All payments go through PayFast (SA) or Stripe (international). I never see your card details, and you get a real itemised receipt for every payment.
- If you're on a monthly care plan, you can cancel any time from your account. No notice period, no email-to-cancel, no awkwardness.
If something genuinely goes wrong
If we disappear, miss agreed deliverables for more than 24 hours without a written explanation, or otherwise materially break what we agreed:
- You get a written, itemised refund for the work not done.
- You keep any partial deliverables we've already sent (designs, copy, codebase).
- All your accounts (hosting, domain, Shopify, etc.) remain in your name — you can hire someone else immediately.
This isn't a marketing promise. It's written into every quote I send out, and it's the answer if anyone ever asks why you trusted a designer you found online.
